“Never breathe a word of what I went through there…”

Do You Come From Gomorrah? is a world premiere from Frank McGuinness, one of Ireland’s most celebrated playwrights and will be performed by Ryan Donaldson (Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme, 2016 and Tartuffe, 2023).

‘I recognise my breed, when I come across the men who look as if they have seen a ghost…’

A young man relives his time caged in a reformatory where money and terror shaped him, his faith, his sexuality.

‘I do not like the past. It is not kind to me. It does not belong to me.’

He relives the violence and loyalty that shaped him and the province of Ulster he loves, yet must leave.

Stark, unsettling, in the darkest of nights, holding on to hope, who is it that asks “do you come from Gomorrah?” And where is Gomorrah? So near, so far…

Commenting on the play, director Sarah Baxter says ‘I’m excited to be directing the world premiere production of Do You Come From Gomorrah? by Frank McGuinness – it’s always an honour to work on the premiere of a new play and a responsibility I take on joyfully. Ryan Donaldson has a brilliant understanding of Frank’s writing, and I can’t wait for audiences to see him bring this complex, beautiful story to life.’
